How to Fold Towels in 5 Different Ways
Reminder: Always lay the towel down on a smooth and flat surface to do all these five techniques. Make sure your towel is clean and dry before folding, to avoid foul odors and mold.
How to Fold a Towel in Four Parts
This basic folding technique leaves you with towels you can easily store in a closet or stack on a rack.
Step 1: Fold the Towel in Half
Fold the towel in half, crosswise. Make sure that the corners are aligned.
After folding, the towel should resemble a square rather than a rectangle. Use the palm of your hands to smooth out the towel out again.
Step 2: Fold the Towel in Half Again
Pick up the folded side of the towel and put it on top of the opposite side. After folding, it should resemble a rectangle.
Step 3: Fold It into a Final Square
Pick up one of the short sides and fold it on top of the opposite side. After folding, you should have a towel that resembles a square.
How to Fold a Towel in Three Parts
This basic folding technique works great if you have limited storage space.
Step 1: Fold the Towel Lengthwise
Pick up the bottom side of the towel. Fold it lengthwise, but not all the way across.
Only fold it one-third of the way. After folding, smooth the towel out with the palm of your hands.
The towel should resemble a rectangle, or a letter envelope with the flap left open.
Step 2: Fold the Towel Lengthwise Again
Pick up the folded section of the towel and fold it lengthwise again. It should cover the remaining one third of the towel.
At this point, the towel should resemble a long and narrow rectangle.
Step 3: Fold the Shorter Sides
Pick up one of the short sides and fold it one third of the way. Then pick up the other short side and do the same thing.
Your towel should resemble a short and narrow rectangle that’s ready for stacking and storage!
How to Fold Towels Using the Konmari Method
The Konmari method was developed by Marie Kondo, a Japanese organizing specialist. She advises people on the proper way to store common household items in the neatest and most efficient way possible.
Step 1: Fold the Towel in Half Twice
Take the bottom side and fold it until it reaches the top side. Make sure that the corners are aligned.
After folding, the towel should resemble a square. Then, take the bottom side again and fold it until it reaches the top.
This time, your towel should resemble a rectangle. Use the palm of your hands to smoothen out any wrinkles.
Step 2: Fold the Towel to Make a Square
Place your hand in the middle of the towel. Take the short side and fold it on top of the opposite side.
At this point, your towel should look like a square.
Step 3: One Last Fold to Make it Stand Up
Take the folded side and bring it over to the opposite side. Your towel should be able to stand up on its own when placed on its side.

How to Fold Towels Store-Style
Impress your guests with this towel folding technique. It may require more work, but it’ll make your towels look great in your closet or on your towel rack!
Step 1: Locate the Tag and Lay the Towel Down
Locate the tag of the towel. Make sure that the tag is facing you and on the bottom right corner, and lay the towel down in front of you.
Step 2: Fold the Bottom
Pick up the bottom right corner and the bottom left corner. Make a six- or seven- inch fold upwards from the bottom.
Step 3: Fold It in Half
Pick up the bottom right corner and the bottom left corner and fold it upwards until it reaches its opposite side. Make sure that the bottom corners are aligned with the upper corners (bottom right corner on top of the upper right corner and bottom left corner on top of the upper left corner).
Step 4: Fold It to Show the Towel’s Details
Smooth down the towel with the palm of your hands. Take the upper left and right corners and fold them down to the bottom corners.
The details or design of the towel should be seen from the top.
Step 5: Fold It in Half Again
Flip the towel over. Make sure that the details are facing down and the plain side is facing up.
Place your hand in the middle of the towel to help you fold the towel into a perfect half. Fold the towel crosswise.
Tip: If you have limited storage space, you can tweak the fifth step. Instead of folding the towel in half, fold it into thirds.
How to Roll Towels Like In The Spa or Gym
When you roll your towels, you can achieve a spa-like feeling at home! This will instantly elevate the atmosphere of your home. Rolled towels not only look great, but are also an easy and space-saving way to pack towels if you’re going on a trip!
Step 1: Position the Towel
It’s best to position the towel so that it’s horizontal in front of you, rather than vertical.
Step 2: Make a Triangular Fold
Take the bottom right corner and make a triangular fold. Make sure that the right side is aligned with the top side.
Your towel should look like a rectangle on one end, with a triangular shape slide on the other end.
Step 3: Fold the Remaining Bottom Half
Take the bottom left corner and the newly- folded corner and fold it until it reaches the top side. The bottom side should be aligned with and top of the top side.
Smooth the folded towel down with the palm of your hands. Your towel should still look like a rectangle on one end with a triangular slide on the other end, but narrower.
Step 4: Flip Your Towel Over
Flip your towel over so that all of the visible folds are facing down. The triangular side should be on your right side while the rectangular side should be on your left.
Use the palm of your hands to flatten the towel one last time before moving on to the next step.
Step 5: Roll Your Towel
Pick up the lower left corner and upper left corner. Slowly and tightly roll your towel until you reach the opposite end.
Step 6: Tuck in the Corner
Insert the lower right corner into the nearest fold to secure the towel’s shape. You now have a tightly rolled towel that you can easily display or pack!
Having beautifully folded towels don’t have to be complicated! You’d be surprised to see how much of a difference well-folded towels can make in your home.
The great thing about these techniques is that you can pick and choose which folding styles work best for your space and needs. So go ahead and try them out!
